7/31(Mon) JPT 21:00~"GROW THE PIE: How great companies deliver both purpose and profit with Professor Alex Edmans"
The Kamakura Sustainability Institute (KSI) is delighted to announce an upcoming online seminar: "GROW THE PIE: How great companies deliver both purpose and profit with Professor Alex Edmans". In an exciting collaboration, thanks to the generous support of Human Value, the publisher of the Japanese edition, ten lucky attendees will be chosen at random to receive a copy of Professor Edmans's acclaimed book.
Reconciling stakeholder interests with those of shareholders is a conundrum that continues to be explored through discourses like stakeholder capitalism. Professor Alex Edmans's approach, as detailed in his book "Grow the Pie", promotes an inclusive 'pie-growing' mentality. Rather than fixating on how to split up profits among shareholders and stakeholders, the focus shifts to expanding social value, symbolized by the size of the pie.
Since its UK publication in 2020, 'Grow the Pie' has garnered significant attention, being named Financial Times Book of the Year 2020. It showcases robust evidence that companies can indeed generate both profit and social value, demonstrating this is not a zero-sum game. The book incorporates insights from numerous fields including economics, finance, organizational behavior theory, strategy, marketing, and accounting. KSI believes it is imperative for the sustainability community to listen to Professor Edmans's evidence-based arguments in the current climate of quick-fix solutions and polarizing opinions.
In celebration of the Japanese edition of "Grow the Pie", launching on July 29th, we are privileged to have Professor Edmans join us to distill the essence of his book in our seminar. Despite the time difference, Professor Edmans will be delivering his talk late in the evening, from London. The event will also feature a pre-recorded video streaming session and a live Q&A. Our moderator for the evening will be KSI board member, Toshi Hayashi. For your convenience, we will provide simultaneous Japanese-English interpretation.
